You’ve been fine. Or like, fine enough.

You've been the capable one. The always “on top of your game” one, and the in control one one. Easy to be around, good in a crisis, fun at dinner. You've faked the ending. You've said yes when in all honesty, you wanted to say no. You've existed more for others than for yourself.

Nothing is wrong, exactly. That's almost the worst part, there's nothing dramatic enough to point at. Life is good enough, maybe. But shouldn’t there be more to life?

Because you feel like there’s something that wants to be heard.

A spark of aliveness, or maybe a thought. Something that wants to be felt, or heard. And instead of listening, we chose numbness. I know that I did that, for years. Your body took that decision a long time ago, to protect you. And underneath it, almost always, is grief. For the years spent performing. For the self you put away to be acceptable for others. For the life running parallel to the one you're actually living.
